100 Rare Behind the Scenes from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey

100 Rare Behind the Scenes from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey My rating: 4 out of 5

Discovered on Reddit, this assortment of black-and-white and color photos from a variety of sources, many taken by Kubrick himself, really gives you a feeling of what it must have been like during production, not to mention the meticulousness Kubrick applied to every element of the film. Dig the sets mid-construction and the miniature models being positioned for filming, the test shots of visual effects, or the manipulated frames of the slipstream sequence. There are also quite a few portraits of Kubrick that hint at his mercurial personality, steadfast and stern one moment, laughing and frivolous the next, but always in charge, looking over his production like an omniscient conductor, or a mad scientist.
